“0konomi og Politik”
The principal instrument in this work of dissemination is the
Institute’s quarterly review, 0konomi og Politik, which ap-
peared shortly after the Institute was founded. It brings surveys
and analyses of the important social, economic and political ques-
tions of the outside world presented so that it can be read with
profit by the interested layman. The unquestionable disinterested-
ness of the directors of the Institute and the fact that the neces-
sary financial support exclusively originates from scientific funds
of the highest standard are guarantees to the readers that the
periodical has no other purpose than to bring truthful, sober
and objective information on the burning problems of the day.
That this attempt on the part of the Institute to give Danes a
broader understanding of the world about them is succeeding
in its purpose is proved by the steady increase in the number of
subscribers to 0konomi og Politik.
The activity of the review during the last five years deserves
special mention here. Despite the war and the German occupation
of Denmark which, aside from creating other difficulties, has
cut us completely off from most of the usual foreign sources of
information, it has been possible to bring out a publication of
high standard both in regard to the amount of information and
to its objective presentation. There is no doubt that the Institute
by so doing has rendered a distinct national and even international
service during a period of extreme dearth of news from abroad
and of objective news from Denmark.
Every number of 0konomi og Politik since publication started
in 1927 has contained surveys of the economic development dur-
ing the preceeding three months in England, France, Germany,
the United States, and Denmark. Every six month similar surveys
are given on economic conditions in Norway, Sweden and Fin-
land. Until the League of Nations de facto stopped working in
1940 regular reports were given of the activities of this inter-
national body as well as of the International Labour Office and
the World Court at the Hague.
The rest of the magazine is made up of articles on the various
problems in the lime-light at the moment, which are particularly
helpful in enabling subscribers to read their daily newspaper with
greater profit. In the limited space of this survey it is quite im-
