Winnipeg, Manitoba.
President:
I hereby submit the Annual Report of
the Young Icelanders for the term 1938—
1939.
It has been very unfortunate that two
of our officers have been absent from the
city since the fall of 1938. The Presi-
dent, E. B. Olson and the Secretary,
Tryggvi Oleson. As a result, there was
no meeting until November 13, 1938, when
Dr. L. A. Sigurdson, Vice-Pres., called the
Executive together. We have been un-
able to conact Tryggvi Oleson and obtain
the Minutes of Meetings prior to this
date, therefore, we only report on the
activities of the Society since November
13, 1938.
T-here have been five Executive Mest-
ings and three General Meetings since
that date.
At the first General Meeting it was
decided to hold the meetings in the homes
of members. This, we have found, is
most satisfactory, as our members be-
come better acquainted and have a nice
social evening together. The order of the
meeting is as follows:
1. Business.
2. A Guest Speaker, speaking on some
phase of the Icelandic Sagas.
3. An Icelandic Sing-Song, or other
form of entertainment.
4. Refreshments.
It was decided unanimously to carry
on the work of the Society with the
Vice-Pres., Dr. L. A. Sigurdson as acting
President and Lara B. Sigurdson as Act-
ing Secretary.
ACTIVITIES:
A Banquet was held at Embassy Hall,
in commemoraition of Icelamd’s Independ-
ence Day, Dec. 1, 1938.
A Book-Group has 'been organized.
English translations of Icelandic books
have been chosen. The Group will read
the books, then meet to discuss them.
A Sports Committee has been very
active, organizing Toboggan parties
Hikes, etc.
