There are sporadic cases of enteric fever every year, mostly minor
epidemics, in the majority of cascs tracabJe to milk. Icelandic physi-
cians are in a steadily increasing degree awakening to the important
part played by bacil carriers in connection with the spreading of
enteric fever, and most physicians do their u'tmost to find thenr out.
Nineteen persons in various districts of the country are known to be
or strongly suspected of being carriers of the enteric fever bacil. Ex-
perience has shown, that once a carrier has been detected simple pro-
])hylactic measures are sufficient to render him harmless.
5. Venereal diseases. Notified cases of venereal diseases in the years
