væri ekki á taugatengsl heldur á taugina sjálfa;
aukin kalíumleiðni í frumuhimnunni leiddi til yfir-
skautunar (hyperpolarizationar) og minnkaðs ert-
anleika taugarinnar. Til stuðnings þessari kenn-
ingu nefndu þeir m.a. niðurstöður okkar um áhrif
metohexitals á kalíumstreymi sem áður voru
nefndar. Pannig getur hver lítil uppgötvun orðið
mikilvægur hluti í stærra púsluspili. Ég er sann-
færður um að við eigum að reyna eftir fremsta
megni að halda uppi grunnrannsóknum sem tengj-
ast geðlæknisfræði við geðdeildir landsins, en það
kostar þrautseigju og þolinmæði, því fátt krefst
eins mikillar þolinmæði og grunnrannsóknir við
erfiðar aðstæður.
