7. Leprosy. Tlie number of patients has been almost constantly de-

These figures are based upon monthly reports from phycicians, but
in the annual rcport on bydatid desease, which comprises all medical
districts in this country, 27 cases are notified.

In addition to the monthly reports from district medical officers,
on which the above survey is based, medical officers in all districts,
have made out a list showing the incidence of malignant tumors during
the year. According to these tables tliere are 193 cancer patients, be-
sides 16 suffering from sarcoma and 3 from tumors of the brain. On
page 57 these malignant. tumors are classified according to location.
10. School-Inspection. In Iceland an obligatory medical examina-
tion of all school-children takes place at the beginning of each session,
especially with regard to tuberculosis. At the same time the sanitary
condition of the schools is inspected and all matters bearing upon
the health of the children are looked into The inspection is nnder-
taken by the district medical officers. In Reykjavík, however, there
are special school medical officers. Table X shows the result of
school inspection in the whole country with the exception of one
district comprising 14335 children.
11. Maternity (see tables XII—XIV). The total number of births
in 1939 was 2331 born alive and 37 stillborn, or 15,6%P of the total
number.
