Þetta gildir raun- ar ekki bara um Ísland því þessar erfðafræðilegu rannsóknir benda til þess að háplöntuflóran við norð- anvert Atlantshaf hafi borist þang- að eftir ísöld.1 Í þessari grein hafa verið tal- in upp ýmis rök sem benda til skammrar sögu núverandi flóru á Íslandi en ekkert fjallað um þau sem benda til hins gagnstæða, þ.e. að hér hafi hluti lífríkis hjarað a.m.k. síðasta jökulskeið. Bjarni K. Krist- jánsson og Jörundur Svavarsson telja að hellamarflærnar sem áður var minnst á kunni að hafa lifað ís- öldina af neðanjarðar.63 Þá hefur verið bent á að plöntur virðast hafa numið land hratt eftir að ísa leysti og sæmilega fjölskrúðugur gróður birt- ist tiltölulega fljótt.64,65 Gróður náði að breiðast út á skammvinnu hlý- skeiði, kenndu við Alleröd/Bölling, áður en jöklar stækkuðu á ný í loka- fjörkipp síðasta jökulskeiðs (yngra Dryas-skeiði, 10,3 Ka BP).66 Það er ekki víst að úr því fáist nokkurn tímann skorið með óyggjandi hætti hvort einhverjar háplöntur tórðu hér af ísöld eða síðasta hluta hennar. Hitt virðist að minnsta kosti ljóst að núverandi flóra ber sjálf ekki merki langrar sögu í landinu. 79 1-4#loka.indd 109 4/14/10 8:51:39 PM
