dispersed in the end of October, at that
time Jackdaws showed up at other
localities in S.- and SW.-Iceland. Jack-
daws wintered in at least four villages:
at Mosfellssveit (3 birds, 1 <$ juv col-
lected*), at Sandgerdi (5), at Eyrar-
bakki (8—10) and at Selfoss (7—10).
One bird caught at Grindavík in
October was kept in captivity and later
released in Reykjavik.

flock wintered in Reykjavík, one in a
plantation and six in the town centre.
The birds where last seen all together
on 18 April 1977. A pair, one bird from
this flock and a bird released from
captivity (see above), stayed and built
at least two nests (Fig. 2). One nest was
in a chimney and one in a elevator
tower, no eggs where laid. This pair
wintered again at the same place in
1977—78, one bird disappeared in
November the other was last seen on 15
May. This is the only known breeding
attempt of this species in Iceland.

The spring records (16 records, 18 birds)
are evenly distributed over the period 3
March—10 May. The autumn records (19
records, 75 birds) cover the period 3
September—28 December with a maximum
10—31 October (Fig. 3). This max. coincides
with the peak migration period in N.-Eu-
rope (Lennerstedt 1958, Mathiasson 1957,
Roos 1974, 1977).
