ln 1933 the number of deaths from tuberculosis suddenly dropped
from about and above 200, or about 2%c of the whole population, which
figure had been almost stationary since 1924, to 173 or 1,5%C. Deaths
from tuberculosis still descreased in 1934 (165 or 1,4%c), then for
the first time in many years failing to head the list of causes
of mortality and becoming second on the list, next after old age. In
1933 the number of deaths from meningeal tuherculosis also suddenly
dropped from 20—25% of the total number of deaths from tuberculosis
to 14%. Year 1934 too, showed a comparatively low figure, or 16% of
the total number of deaths from tuberculosis. This fact held out some
hope that tuberculous infection in this country was as last beginning
to wane. This year brought no disappointment in this respect, as deaths
from tuberculosis still decreased in number, the total being 149 (1,3%0).
Thus tuberculosis now stands third on the list of causes of mortality,
next below old age and malignant tumors. Deaths from meningeal tuber-
culosis now amount to 18,1% of the total number of deaths from tuber-
culosis.
7. Leprosij. The number of patients has been constantly decreasing
in previous years, until in the preceding year 3 new patients turned
up, or rather three old cases were discovered. This year leprosy patients
again decrease in number, their total being the lowest on record.

These figures are based upon monthly reports from physicians,
but in the annual report on hydatid disease, which comprises all
medical districts in this country except 3 (the capital and two others),
15 cases are notified. In every one of these 15 cases the cysts were located
in the liver or the abdomen, and the patients were mostlv old people,
who have had the disease for many years.

In addition to the cancer deaths reported here, 5 persons died of
sarcoma.
In addition to the monthly reports from district medical officers,
on which the above survey is based, medical officers in all districts,
with the exception of two, one of them the capital, have made out a
list showing the incidence of malignant tumors during the year. Accor-
ding to these tables there are 81 cancer patients, besides one suffer-
