Deaths frora tuberculosis may be classified as follows (last year’s
figures in round brackets): Pulmonary tuberculosis 54 (64), universal
tuberculosis 2 (3), tuberculosis of bones and joints 2 (9), meningeal
tuberculosis 9 (8), abdominal tuberculosis 2 (2), tuberculosis of the
urinary and generative organs 2 (3).
7. Leprosy. The number of patients has been almost constantly
decreasing in previous years.

These figures are based upon monthly reports from physicians, but
in the annual report on the disease, which comprises all medical
districts in this country except one, 25 cases are reported.

In addition to the monthly reports from district medical officers,
on which the above survey is based, medical officers in all districts
have made out a list showing the incidence of malignant tumors
during the year. According to these tables there are 261 such patients
(tumors of the brain and lymphogranulomatosis included). On pages
59—60 these malignant tumors are classified according to location.
11. School Inspection. In Iceland an obligatory medical examina-
tion of all school-children takes place at the beginning of each session,
especially with regard to tuberculosis. At the same time the sanitary
condition of the schools is inspected and all matters bearing upon
the health of the children are looked into. The inspection is under-
taken by the district medical officers. In Reykjavik, however, there are
special school medical officers. Table X shows the result of school
inspection in the whole contry, with the exception of one district,
comprising 13995 children.
