4. Epidemic Diseases. The incidence
of epidemic diseases in 1958 is sliown
in tables II, III and IV, 1—28.
The table below shows the in-
cidence of epidemic diseases in 1954
—1958 as also the aggregate number
of deaths from each disease during
ihe same period.
There were no serious outbreaks
°f communicable diseases during the
year. A moderate wave of Measles
reached its peak in December. Unu-
sually many cases both of serous
Meningitis and Epidemic Cerebros-
pinal Meningitis were reported, but
the diagnosis of the latter wTas only
exceptionally verified bacteriologi-
eally and there is all reason to believe
ii'at many, perhaps most, of the cases
were not of meningococcal origin.
The death rate from pneumonia was
the highest since 1942.
5. Venereal Diseases. Notified cases
in the years 1954—1958 are as follows
