The svarabhakti vowel does not occur. Jón Helgason cites, however, two
inverse forms, ‘fodr’ (- fgður) from the Egils saga part of the MS (f.
27v15) and, within Eyrbyggja, the feminine possessive ‘(frændsemi) okkr’
(= okkur) 24.74, showing that the change was in progress. The significance
of <r> in ‘megRÖ’ 28.7 is not clear.
Final -is is written with <ss> as was then not uncommon35 ‘miðleiðiss’
19.11 - ‘o kæypiss’ 45.37 (x 20); ‘áá"mælis’ 47.10 has one <s> only.
3. MORPHOLOGY
Nominal forms As was common at the date of the manuscript, the scribe
assumed that the nominative form of Már was Márr. Analogical genitive
with s added to nominative appears in ‘Mars’ (= Más) 25.21, 27, Þorirs (=
Þóris) 47.6 (ct ‘Þoris(s)’ 27.51, 45.49).
The dative of hey is without classical v before i in ‘heyinu’ 28.21, 29,
32.134, 41.56, 67, but the consonant is retained in ‘heyuinu’ 28.23,
‘heyfui’ 48.100 (all). mjór preserves the prevocalic labial in ‘miofua’
34.38, ‘miofui’ 39.12, as does the dative of Már ‘Mafui’ 40.34.
The dative of Arnkell twice appears in the classical form ‘Amkatli’
25.91, 28.3. Otherwise the dative is abbreviated and evidence therefore not
available. The parallel dative of Egill is (probable but in indistinct red)
‘Agli’ 35.1 in a chapter heading. But Jón Helgason cites analogical ‘egli’
occurring “often” in W’s Egils saga.36
Geirríðr has nom. once with final <r> 19.16 (margin), elsewhere
abbreviated. Jón Helgason cites nom. of Sigríðr without <r> in Egils saga
(no reference). Þuríðr: the nom. appears with final <r> at 27.28, 41.21, 22,
24, 112 (all); without it at 27.37, 76, 34.16, 46, 40.48, 41.25, 38, 90, 102,
42.54, 106, 50.16 (all). The form ‘Þurið’ occurs once as the accusative,
40.45 (elsewhere ‘Þuriði’).
