Adjectival forms Superlatives are regularly with <azt)/(uzt), as ‘hress-
aztr’ 38.69 - ‘hvataztr’ 48.4 (x 11); front mutated forms have (st), as ‘mest’
38.58 - ‘hægst’ 45.49 - ‘flestvm’ 48.6 (x 19) but <z> where there is a dental
in the stem ‘minzt’ 45.34, ‘bezta’ 47.17 (all). Analogical ‘nærst-’ occurs in
‘nærstv’ 41.52, ‘nærst’ 42.1, 162, ‘nærst/r’ 45.5 (all).
The negating prefix is <o> ‘olifiss’ 38.49 - ‘ospekt’ 46.4 - ‘O(spaki)’
47.31 (x 47, 34 of which are forms of the name Óspakr). Exceptions are
‘vvænt’ 40.1, ‘vvit’ 45.5.
Verbal forms The twenty or so distinctive first person singular verbal
forms (discounting modal verbs) show no tendency to alteration in the
direction of second or third person ones, with the possible exception of ‘ek
hef[/r]’ 45.9. The spelling there is uncertain and may in any case have been
affected by the preceding ‘þv hef/r’. Both E and W also have ‘hef/r’ at this
point; it is E’s only instance of such a form; cf p. 38*.
Reduplicating verbs: ‘reru’/‘rerv’ 38.42, 45.15, 47.7, 10 (all); ‘snm(z)’
38.30, 41.35, 42.171, 45.59, also ‘s]n[er]i’ 45.3 (all).
hgggva: perfect part. ‘havgvit’ 45.60.
‘vidra<d)i’ 41.55 is perhaps inaccurately copied from ‘vidrdi’, cf W. (Or
is the missing dental a parallel to the strange forms of hgfuðit? C/Errors.)
Medio-passive forms are usually in <z> ‘foruz’ 38.2 - ‘spvrdiz’ 47.30 (x
ca 85), sometimes <zt> ‘skeindizt’ 38.55 - ‘komzt’ 45.58 (x 11). First
person singular forms are in (umz) ‘dyliuwz’ 41.38, ‘latumz’ 42.87 (all).
