Halldorson, Treasurer. In the past our society has had great success in holding meetings in private homes, in fact so successful have the meetings been that they threatened to outgrow the accommodations. We decided therefore to try and hold meetings in Club Rooms. However of the five general meetings held this past year the two most successful were those held in private homes, and I would like to take this opportunity of expressing our hearty thanks to Miss Olga Benson and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Anderson for their hospitality and kindness in permitting us to hold meetings in their homes. Such hospitality as they have shown is greatly appreciated. The attendance at our meetings have ranged anywhere from 40 to 100 present. AIl our meetings have been held with the object of being entertaining as well as instructive. At our meetings we have had several guest speakers and artists. Among these have been Mrs. Hjalmur Danielson, Miss Dora Sigurdson, Dr. Richard Beck, and Miss S. Sigurdson. At one meeting moving pictures were shown by the Ford Motor Company. It has been a pleasure and privilege to have these people with us and we are gratefui to them for giving us of their time and talents. We continue our custom of observing Iceland’s Independence Day by holding a dance at the Marlborough Hotel on December 6th, 1940. Our Patroness for the evening was Mrs. W. J. Lindal. Mr. S. Sigmundson spoke briefly about the purpose of the gathering with direct re- ference to Iceland’s Independence Day. The proceeds of the dance were donated to the Red Cross. We assumed the responsibility of col- lecting $50.00 for the I.O.D.E. scholarship fund. This has been covered in the Financial Report so further reference to it here is not necessary. As usual, in addition to general meet- ings we have held numerous outings and sport events which were enjoyed by those members and their friends who took part in them. One of the outstanding of the sport events wras the holding of an Archery Contest at the Icelandic Celebra- tion at Gimli last summer. Another achievement of the year was a final decision about a name. By popular vote our preeent name was de- cided upon. Following this, membership cards were printed and plans made for a membership drive. We have already a membership numbering approximately 75, but with a considerable additional num- ber who have attended meetings and other events. Our purpose is now to strengthen our organization and increase its membership. With that end in view a membership organizer was appointed in the person of S. Sigmundson. Good re- sults are looked for. At the last general meeting the Officers for the present year were elected as fol- lows: President — O. B. Petursson Viee-President — A. Eggertson Treasurer — Miss M. Halldorson Secretary — Miss G. Reykdal
