The topic of her doctoral work is children’s learning opportunities in one preschool in Iceland. Gudrun Alda completed preschool-teacher education from the Icelandic College for Preschool Teachers 1985, a diploma in school management from the same school in 1992 and an M.Ed. degree from the Iceland University of Education in 1998. Gudrun Alda completed her pedagogista training in the Reggio Emilia Institute in Stockholm in 2009. She was a lecturer and subsequently senior lecturer in preschool studies at the University of Akureyri and currently operates a preschool in Iceland and works there as pedagogista. Kristjan Kristjansson (kk9@hi.is) completed a Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of St. Andrews. He is currently a professor in philosophy of education in the School of Education, University of Iceland, and has recently been appointed professor of character education and virtue ethics, as well as vice-director of the Jubilee Centre for Character and Values, at the University of Birmingham. Kristjan has published extensively in the areas of educational philosophy/theory, ethics and moral education. His latest book is The self and its emotions (Cambridge University Press, 2010). He is currently working on another book for C.U.P. on the philosophical credentials of positive psychology.
