Lenition and loss of consonants Classical final t has undergone lenition
in ‘þid’ 41.51, but ‘ad’ does not appear. The inverse spelling ‘vit’ appears
twice written in full 38.17, 45.49 (both adv.), but the <d) spelling for the
preposition occurs at 41.34 (sole). The spelling of við as <u)/<v> followed
by superscript <‘> is expanded ‘u it'fvit'.
u/v is lost before q in ‘kaudí/u’ 42.123.
Postconsonantal v is represented by <f> in igerfar, 42.9, ‘gerfir' 42.153.
Dissimilation of mn occurs in ‘saufnvdvz’ 45.75 (ct ‘savmnvdvz’ 45.71).
The combinations gt and kt have fallen together ‘sakt’ 40.8 (ct ‘sagt’
41.39), ‘kunnikt’ 41.11, ‘snvdikt’ 41.29.
Unstressed syllables Double <s) occurs after <i) as ‘olifiss’ 38.49,
‘erfiss’ 42.205.
<at) is almost universal for -at ‘þagat’ 38.51 - Tittat’ 45.54 (x 22) (ct
‘hatad’ 42.127), as is <it) for -it ‘skcrit’ 38.3 - ‘verit’ 48.4 (x 30). There are
some inverse spellings ‘kostnat’ 42.90 (sole <at», ‘mættit’ 41.38 (sole <it»,
‘hafuts’ 38.38 - ‘ervt’ 38.63 - ‘havfvt’ 42.191 (x 5 <ut» but ‘favstvd’ 42.180.
The only occurrence of a svarabhakti vowel before r is the non-final
example ‘brækvraar’ 38.60.
Interconsonantal t is lost in ‘ausmcnnirn/r’ 38.10, interconsonantal g in
‘mart’ 42.82.
