liche in Theodoricus’ Text gewesen sei. Vielmehr hat dort al-
ler Wahrscheinlichkeit nach - mit Ari als Quelle - die Zahl
862 gestanden.377 Diese Jahreszahl (862) findet sich nun gera-
de in det Handschrift L, die den gröBten Wert zu haben
scheint.378 L ist, wie in dieser Untersuchung bereits erörtert
wurde, die einzige erhaltene Abschrift, die/. Kirchmann, der
damals den jetzt verlorenen Pergamentcodex fand, selbst ge-
schrieben hat. Die Forschung hat dieser Handschrift wenig
Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt, seit Lehmann sie im Jahre 1936
aus der Vergessenheit zog. Man scheint auch kein groBes In-
teresse an der Jahreszahl 862 genommen zu haben,379 wie fol-
gende Worte V. Skánlands zeigen:
The variants millesimo ofAM andsexagesimo of B [d.i. L] can be dismissed
without comment, and we will then have to choose between the years 852 and
858 as the date originally put down by the author.380
A discussion of the value of the Icelandic annals for the chronology of this
period would necessitate a lengthy digression, which the remaining part of this
contribution, with the demonstration of Theodoricus’ method of computa-
tion, will prove to be superfluous.381
Skánlands Ansicht, daB die Jahreszahl 862 ohne weiteren
Kommentar zu eliminieren und eine Erörterung islándischer
Annalen unnötig sei, kann man hier aus obengenannten
Griinden nicht zustimmen. Theodoricus’ und Aris chronolo-
gische Mitteilungen in bezug auf Haraldr hárfagris Regie-
rungsantritt sind nun náher zu betrachten.
Vergleicht man den fruher zitierten Abschnitt (B) aus dem
Text der Königschronik mit der betreffenden Stelle der ís-
lendingabók, zeigt sich, daB beide Quellen die gleiche Chro-
nologie und einen áhnlichen Wortlaut haben:
Hic [Haraldus pulchre-comatus] primum expulit omnes regulos et solus ob-
tinuit regnum totius Norwagiæ annis septuaginta [70!] et defunctus est. (Vgl.
Passus B, d.h. Zitat279.)
/.../[Haraldr enn hárfagri] es fyrstr varð þess kyns einn konungr at yllum
Norvegi.382
En svá es sagt, at Haraldr væri sjau tegu vetra konungr ok yrði áttrœðr.383
