eller hans broder diafurs hånd kendes ikke, men de to brødres navne
findes i andre kilder, som ganske vist ikke oplyser meget ud over netop
navnene.
Einar Geirmundsson nævnes i tre diplomer fra midten af det 15.
århundrede, DI IV nr. 724 (et udateret transskript af et brev fra 1446,
bevaret i en sen afskrift), DI V nr. 150 (Vatnsfjorbur 1458) og 156
(Gufudalur 1458). (De to sidstnævnte breve er bevaret i original, AM
Dipi. Isl. Fase. XIV, 13 og 12, men skriften i dem har ingen særlige
lighedspunkter med marginalnoterne). Bortset herfra vides intet om
ham. Hans broder Olafur Geirmundsson nævnes i to originaldiplomer,
DI IV nr. 719 (AM Fase. XII, 4, Langadalur å Skogarstrond 1446)
og DI V nr. 325 (AM Fase. XV, 12, Reykholar 1462). (Heller ikke
skriften i disse to diplomer har nogen speciel lighed med marginalno-
terne). Det første er hans egen ægtepagt (kaupmålabréf) med Sigri&ur
Forsteinsdottir; det andet, i hvilket Olafur tituleres bondi, er ægtepag-
ten mellem hans datter Forbjorg og Andrés Gu&mundsson. Om Olafur
Geirmundsson, der synes at have “arvet” tilnavnet toni fra sin
bedstefader, Olafur toni Oorleifsson på Reykholar, kan i øvrigt henvi-
ses til Peter Foote i indledningen til Early Icelandic Manuscripts IV, s.
12 med henvisninger. Olafur toni synes i det 17. århundrede at have
været en kendt figur i islandske folkesagn, men disse er for det første
kun i ringe udstrækning bevaret til nutiden, og har for det andet i nogen
grad sammenblandet den yngre Olafur toni med den ældre, en slags
vestlandsk modstykke til Sæmundr froåi i folkeoverleveringen. Olafur
skal (som ung?) have været i Bjorn £>orleifsson riki’s og Olof
Loptsdottirs tjeneste på SkarS; senere (?) skal han have boet på Ytri
Raubamelur på Snæfellsnes. Olafur toni Geirmundssons hånd kendes
fra et par marginalier i helgensagahåndskriftet Sth. perg. fol. nr. 211,
hvor han bl.a. omtaler sit “krabb” og “klor” på en måde der godt kan
minde om marginalnoterne i 656. En sammenligning mellem hånden i
disse penneprøver og marginalnoterne i 656 I, bl. 14r, 36v, 13r og 39v
giver dog ingen endegyldig bekræftelse på at marginalskriveren i 656 er
Olafur toni; hånden er i begge tilfælde lille og sirlig, men materialet er
for lille til at man tør bygge på det. Mod hypotesen taler særlig de
forskellige g-typer i de to håndskrifter og den omstændighed at Olafur
