Handschrift der Hålfs saga zu rechnen, die sowohl fur die Ubersetzung
in Gks 1019 fol wie fur die Abschrift in AM 202 f fol als Vorlage
diente. Diese nicht erhaltene Handschrift nenne ich *D.
5. Åsgeir Jonsson, der ab 1688 als Sekretår Torfæus’ auf dessen Hof
Stangeland in Norwegen eine Vielzahl von Manuskripten anfertigte,
schrieb auch die Texte der Hålfs saga in AM 1008 4to und AM 202 c
fol. Torfæus hatte damals zahlreiche Manuskripte aus der koniglichen
Bibliothek in Kopenhagen, darunter die Membran Gks 2845 4to, nach
Norwegen ausgeliehen. Hauptvorlage fur die Hålfs saga in AM 1008
4to war auch zweifellos die Membran (AM 202 c fol dagegen muB von
AM 1008 4to, unter emeuter Hinzunahme der Membran, kopiert
worden sein und kann deshalb im folgenden unbeachtet bleiben),
daneben besteht jedoch zwischen dem Text in AM 1008 4to und dem
in AM 202 f fol eine Åhnlichkeit, die weit iiber die vom selben
Schreiber zu erwartende Ubereinstimmung einzelner Abweichungen
hinausgeht und beide Manuskripte mit der Hålfs saga in JS 43 4to,
einer im Umkreis des Magnus Jonsson von Vigur entstandenen
Handschrift, verknupft9. Nachdem sich weder in Årni Magnussons
Briefwechsel mit Torfæus noch in den Verzeichnissen in AM 435 b
4to noch in AM 202 f fol selbst ein Anhaltspunkt dafur findet, daB die
Handschrift jemals bei Torfæus in Norwegen war, sondern ziemlich
sicher ist, daB sie in Kopenhagen entstand und auch dort blieb, kann
sie kaum bei der Abschrift der Hålfs saga in AM 1008 4to mitver-
wendet worden sein. Hingegen ist anzunehmen, daB Åsgeir Jonsson
das von Påll Ketilsson angefertigte Manuskript der Hålfs saga, das sich
im Besitz Torfæus’ befand, mit herangezogen hat. Daraus wåre zu
folgem, daB dieses nicht erhaltene Manuskript mit der Abschrift der
Hålfs saga in JS 43 4to verwandt war.
6. Fur diese Verwandtschaft gibt es tatsåchlich ein zeitgenossisches
Zeugnis:
Als Årni Magnusson seine friihere Notiz iiber die verlorene, von
Påll Ketilsson angefertigte Handschrift der Hålfs saga zitiert, nennt er
