In Sturlubok (ch. 36) it is said that the settlers, Ketill biundr
and Geirr his son, took possession of the land in Flokadalr in Borg-
arfjorår south of the Hvitå. Blund-Ketill was one of the children
of Geirr, according to Sturlubok (and Hænsa-Boris saga). Maurer
and others after him figured that there were two men named Blund-
Ketill, one the son of Geirr of Geirshlib in Flokadalr, the other the
son of Ornolfr of Ornolfsdalr. They think that these two have been
confused and Blund-Ketill Geirsson wrongly considered to have
lived in Ornolfsdalr (Hænsa-Boris saga). That is thought to be
the reason why Sturla merged Hænsa-Boris saga and the older
Landnåma text in his chapter 45, as I explained earlier, when he
described the settling of Ornolfsdalr.
Once scholars had agreed that Hænsa-Boris saga might have
influenced Landnåmabok, the many passages where the two writ-
ings are in agreement could be explained by assuming that Sturla
had changed the older Landnåma text to agree with the saga. Let
us summarise some of the examples of this.
In Hænsa-Boris saga it is told that Blundsvatn is named after
Ketill biundr, grandfather of Blund-Ketill. In Sturlubok (chapter 36)
it says that Ketill biundr lived at Blundsvatn, and it is believed
that Sturla concluded this from Hænsa-Boris saga.
The family of Oddr of Tunga is traced in the same way in both
Hænsa-Boris saga and in Sturlubok (chapter 37), but there is a
different genealogy in Boråarbok, derived from Melabok.
In Sturlubok (chapter 37) “Borvaldr, leader of the burning of
Blund-Ketill”, is listed as one of the children of Oddr of Tunga.
Later Sturlubok (chapter 46) traces the family of Arngrimr go5i
“who was at the burning of Blund-Ketill”. Scholars believe these
to be Sturla’s changes or additions taken from Hænsa-Boris saga.
They think that if the burning was mentioned in the older Land-
