e. HARALD DER HARTE UND SEINE NACHFOLGER
Auch die Alleinregierung Haraids setzt mit einem be-
deutenden Unterschied ein, nicht nur in der Ausfiihrlichkeit, sondern
auch in Auffassung und Sachangaben. Agr. låBt Svein Norwegen an-
greifen (durch Finn Arnissohn aufgehetzt) und in einer einzigen Schlacht
den Konflikt beendigt werden (K. 41); nach Th. ist es dagegen Harald,
der in einer Reihe von Kriegszugen (plurima bella) Svein Danemark
zu entreiBen sucht (S. 56). Das låBt nur verschiedene Quellen zu.
Anders wird das Verhaltnis mit Haraids Englandzug und
F a 11. Die Ankunft und der Vorschlag Tostis sind annåhernd gleich-
lautend berichtet, nur etwas breiter im Agr. und genauer iiber Tosti
durch Angabe seines Jarlstitels und des Vaternamens Gopina son (Agr.
42, 1; Th. S. 56). AuBerdem wird Tostis Erbrecht bei Th. als dessen
eigene Behauptung wiedergegeben, im Agr. als objektive Tatsache. Wort-
åhnlich ist die Eroberung Northumberlands (42,2; Th. S. 56), und
vor allem ins Gewicht fallend, der gemeinsame Irrtum, daB der englische
Konig aus der Normandie herbeigeeilt komme und die Feinde unver-
sehens iiberrasche (42,3 und S. 56). Dagegen hat die Darstellung der
Norweger eine leichte Differenz: bei Th. liegt der Ton darauf, daB die
meisten mit ihrer Beute auf den Schiffen beschåftigt (S. 57), bei Agr.,
daB die Zuriickgebliebenen nahezu waffenlos seien, fyr utan hoggvopn ok
hlifparvopn (42,3). Fur Agr. besteht also die Unterlegenheit haupt-
såchlich in der Bewaffnung, fur Th. in der Zahl: Sed quid faciant pauci
contra tot millia fortes? Weiter ist nun Agr. wieder breiter, indem es
die Ordnung des Heeres und die Leitung durch den Konig gleichge-
wichtig und anschaulich neben dessen Sturz vom Pferd stellt (42, 4) ;
Th. ordnet alles dies knapper der Aussage Haraids syntaktisch unter.
Diese selbst ist im Wortlaut sehr verschieden: sjaldan for svå, på er vel
vildi (42, 5) gegen: raro, inquit, tale signum portendit victoriam (S. 57).
Beide schlieBen eine sinngleiche Bemerkung iiber die Richtigkeit der
Auslegung an: ok svå var ok sem konungrinn sagpi, at hann varp eigi
liugspår und: nec eum fefellit sinistrum omen, und bringen in paralleler
kurzer Formulierung den ungliicklichen Ausgang der Schlacht.
